Graphomat Jr. is a robot platform designed to enable students to experiment with a robotic arm in an easy way. Max Rheiner and me were developing Graphomat Jr. preparation of an interdisciplinary workshop at ZHdK with students from Interaction Design, Industrial Design and Visual Communication. Therefore we implemented the software on the basis of Processing, which offers an easy approach to
JAVA programming. The hardware on the other hand is based on the Robotis motors, which have made it possible to build a custom setup. During the workshop the students experimented with different drawing media and techniques and came up with some pretty stunning results of how such a robot could be used by a variety of pupils with different backgrounds.
